Stan’s Cider Mill

As it becomes closer and closer to Halloween, more students at Central Michigan University begin to crave the seasonal treat of cider and donuts. However, the lack of cider mills surrounding the Mount Pleasant area is very limited. Sure, there’s Uncle John’s Cider Mill, but who wants to drive 45 minutes to get fresh cider and donuts? The answer to that question is simple; not many college students.

Luckily for us Chippewas, there is a simple solution; Stan’s Cider Mill.

Although Stan’s doesn’t provide piles of hay to jump on, antique stores to shop in or a haunted house to run out of, Stan’s is operated in a small home in Rosebush, Michigan by a middle aged couple named Linda and you guessed it; Stan. Stan and Linda make hundreds of gallons of cider out of fresh apples every Saturday and supply it to different stores and cider mills surrounding the area.

When I visited Stan’s last Saturday, the man himself- Stan of course, was nice enough to show my friends and I the entire process of making apple cider. Stan explained to us that he takes every bit of flavor out of each apple to make what he believes to be the best apple cider there is. Below is a photo of Stan’s work area, and what his guests get to watch him do every Saturday.

Once Stan was done removing the flavor from each apple, he showed my friends and I the finishing product; which resembled a piece of cardboard in texture and flavor. (Picture below)

Why take a 45 minute drive to a cider mill when you can encounter the fascinating experience of cider being made? Of course while enjoying fresh cider and donuts.

So save the gas money and take a trip past corn fields and cows and stop by Stan’s Cider Mill in Rosebush, Michigan for your favorite fall treat.
